On Thursday, March 5, 2009, Gallery 1C03 was pleased to launch "Everett Soop: Journalist, Cartoonist, Activist" and we were very fortunate to have one of the co-curators in attendance, Dr. Heather Devine.
The evening got off to a great start with a visit from an APTN journalist and camera operator, and a reporter from CBC Radio (Français). Dr. Devine participated in interviews, and then we took a few words to welcome her and thank our various sponsors, in addition to the Nickle Arts Museums at the University of Calgary for organizing the exhibition.
We had a great turnout, and many people commented immediately that they were pleased to see this exhibition happening at the University of Winnipeg.
Indeed, it was a pleasure to host and we look forward to engaging even more people through related programming in the future!
Below are some photos taken at the opening reception, followed by a photo of Dr. Devine at her lecture.
Dr. Heather Devine offered a curators talk on Friday, March 5 at 12:30 p.m. titled, "Everett Soop's Cartoons: Their Political and Social Context". Thank you to Dr. Devine, and everyone who joined us, for participating in a comprehensive discussion about Soop's life, work, and motivations.
